Darius weighs 23kg and is 1.2m long and was once the largest rabbit in the world. However, this “throne” is being shaken because Darius is in danger of having to “cede the throne” to his son – Jeff the rabbit, who is now 1.17m long. This is a pair of rabbits of the Continental Giant breed, currently living with the owner’s family in the city of Worcester, England.
Annette Edwards, the owner of the giant rabbit couple, confided that Jeff the rabbit still has 6 months of growing time to surpass the measurements of his father – Darius the rabbit to become the largest rabbit on the planet.
Annette said Darius has almost reached his peak development, while Jeff is still in the development stage. “I think Jeff will be much bigger than his father. Guinness will confirm this is the world’s largest rabbit.
Every year, Annette’s family spends up to 5,000 pounds (about 157.8 million VND) to raise giant rabbits. On average, rabbits eat up to 2,000 free tomatoes and 700 apples per year. Every day, people bring large dog bowls to hold rabbit food. They also have hay changed every week.
Although the cost of raising her is quite expensive, Annette’s family does not mind. They consider the rabbit couple as friendly family pets. When the weather is cold, the rabbit pair is brought into the house and sits on the sofa with everyone.
“They are very friendly and loved by the children in the house. Jeff also knows how to care for his father Darius,” owner Annette commented.
Continental Giants are currently the largest rabbit breed today. Jeff the rabbit was born when his father Darius “got together” with another rabbit named Sally, also of this giant rabbit breed.
The rabbit family is currently living in the backyard of Annette’s family. They are taken care of very carefully.
